I was just like thousands and millions students prepared for traditional and Chinese characteristics NME (National Matriculation Examination). In order to improve every subjects I’d been educated, I began to burn the midnight oil almost everyday. It was a very hard process and experience during those days. Teachers and parents indoctrinated something like how it was so important and what meant to my whole life into my brain. I was just like a puppet obeyed the order directly from them, which was nothing but studying hard.
I had to confess that I had no gift on studying, actually, I couldn’t get used to spoon-fed educational method. I liked to be educated some useful knowledge based on practice. Is chinese traditional education method rational and feasible? This issue have been aruged for several decades till now by the social public. Many sociologists and eductionists brought forward some advice on NME but never took them into a action. Numbers of students including me became the sacrifice of chinese tradition, and this tragedy continued…
Fortunately, I finally got a pass to the entrance of university. In the meantime, I aslo got a pass to the freedom and independence. I was 18 then. In the United States, if a kid grows up to 18 which means to he is an adult, his parents usually kick him out of home and let him make a living independently. Similarly,I was kicked out to the university. I guessed the only difference was that I was willing to that.
Just like every freshman had just been to the university, I wanted to be reborn and learn as I wish. I really do so. On the contrary, some guys had made an ambitious pledge filled with enthusiasm at the beginning, nevertheless, after six months, most of them broke their own words, they lay in, cut class, chased and wooed girls all over, even some of them participated in the gangs. The students in the university had been separated into three categories, the first one was those guys who had some beautiful dreams and made up their mind to fulfill it, the second one was those guys who also had similar beautiful dreams but they didn’t have the willpower and aspiration to make it come true, the last one was those guys who had totally no ideas about what the dream is. It’s pathetic and corresponds with the sentence said by LuXun, “Where there is people, there is top, middle and bottom.” Most of students belongs to the second category. As you can guess, I wanted to be in the top category and be an excellent student in the university. This might be a luxurious dream to many students, because if you wanted to make it, you were supposed to struggle and make a great efforts, it was not very easy to everyone.
